We want YOUR vote!

We got 2nd place last year and this year we're going for 1st! But, we need your vote. The Festival of Trees, an event sponsored and benefitting the Carl Perkins Child Abuse Center, is an annual event held after the Covington Christmas parade. The parade is next Monday, Dec. 8th at 7pm. The Festival of Trees is inside the Chamber Center. The trees are all beautiful and decorated by businesses and community groups around town. Most all have a theme; our tree is inspired by the Faith Hill song "A Baby Changes Everything." If you haven't listened to the song (on her Christmas album), you should, it will warm your heart. Admissions is free this year but there will be hot cocoa for sale - these are the proceeds that benefit Carl Perkins Child Abuse Center. We hope you can come catch some Christmas spirit all while supporting a good cause. And - don't forget to vote for the freckled frog's tree!

Introducing Annabelle!

If you've been in the store recently, you may have noticed our new "employee" running around. She's little and furry and by far the cutest thing we've ever seen! Annabelle is Debbie's 10-week old King Charles spaniel and new-found best friend. You're unlikely to see the two apart. Annabelle even went to a Shop Covington meeting with Debbie! Annabelle is fitting in with the freckled frog's culture quite nicely; she loves people and is oftentimes found napping in a pile of ribbons by the monogramming station. Come in to see her soon!

We had a wonderful Christmas Open House and thank all of you for sharing in the Christmas spirit with us! There was lots of eating, shopping and handprinting. We gave away several door prizes and here are the lucky winners: Jen Ford, David Smith, Terry Hensley and Faye Crawford. Faye was actually present at the time of our drawing so we were able to get a picture of her with her "prize," singing Monty. He's sure to become a family favorite!

"How much is that doggie in the window?"

Debbie's chocolate lab, Mocha, had her first litter of puppies! She had 8 beautiful pups; would you believe 7 boys and only 1 girl? The girl is already sold as well as a couple of the boys, but if you are interested in one just call the shop. (475.4558) Both parents have wonderful pedigrees and they would make great pets as well as excellent hunting dogs. They are 4 weeks old and getting bigger by the day. They will be ready in time for Christmas. Aren't they adorable?!?!

The Vanishing Frog

Animal Planet and The Clorox® Company have joined forces to focus worldwide attention on the deadly fungus that is destroying frogs and other amphibian populations around the world through a new multimedia project called The Vanishing Frog. The film, produced by Discovery Studios, sends Animal Planet's Jeff Corwin on a worldwide mission to uncover clues to the frog's deadly plight while also unifying viewers with a common cause of environmental and wildlife protection. The Vanishing Frog is slated to premiere Fall 2008.
From the rocky streams of coastal Australia to the jungles of South America, and even to the American West, the world's frogs are mysteriously vanishing at alarming rates. Frogs and their relatives have thrived on earth for more than 360 million years, but now they're under serious threat. Experts believe that as many as one-third to one-half of the planet's 6,000 amphibian species are in danger of disappearing — victims of one of the most significant mass extinctions since the dinosaurs. Why are amphibians in such dire straits? And can we take action to save them? Jeff Corwin, who has experienced the most mammoth of mammals, reptiles and marine life worldwide, will take on these questions in the documentary The Vanishing Frog.
"Frogs are incredibly amazing creatures with a variety of astonishing skills and innate abilities," commented Corwin. "The plight of the small amphibians is — unfortunately — quite large. Frogs have been with us since the dinosaurs; they are a critical part of the ecosystem and now they are disappearing."
"Jeff is so passionate about raising awareness for this crisis and has such a deep knowledge of the issues affecting these fascinating creatures that he is the perfect person to take us on this journey of discovery," noted Marjorie Kaplan, president and general manager of Animal Planet. "We're thrilled that our partner The Clorox Company has been an ardent advocate for the amphibian crisis and is taking that commitment even further by partnering with us to produce The Vanishing Frog documentary project."
The Clorox Company, whose namesake bleach is used in the field everyday in the battle to save the frogs, last fall became the first corporate sponsor of the Amphibian Ark's "Year of the Frog" initiative and signed on to The Vanishing Frog project while it was still in development.

BBQ Fashion Show 2008

Junior Auxiliary graciously asked us to put on a fashion show for the BBQ Festival Pageant as entertainment between age categories. Never willing to pass on an opportunity to show how cute kids can look, we excitedly accepted the invitation. With "the move" being foremost on our minds, the enthusiasm waned and we confess that the planning of this event was somewhat last minute. Nonetheless, ALL of our "models" did a wonderful job and looked fabulous doing it! Thank you to the Moms and Dads who allowed their children to make a modeling debut! We often get requests to do fashion shows and need models. We welcome any and all customers to model for us...just let us know the next time you come in and we'll put you on the "call list."

Re-opening postponed

Well, we got all moved and ready to open and then...the stomach virus hit! Nearly everyone who helped with the move has it: Debbie, Jerry, Susan, Kendra and Cory. Needless to say we are all at home recovering. "Lord willing and the creek don't rise," we will re-open Monday the 6th. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Closed for the BIG MOVE

We will be closed Monday, September 29th through Thursday, October 2nd for the BIG MOVE! We will re-open on Friday in the brand new store! Come see us!

It's Time!

We can hardly believe the time has already come to move! Our last day on the square will be this Saturday, the 27th and we'll be celebrating Heritage Day! Don't miss the festivities - a children's parade, a petting zoo, historic crafts and much more! We will also have lots of things on sale that we just don't want to move. All the "super buys" will be under our tent just outside the store. Hope to see you Saturday!

Mr. Men Little Miss

The Gap has the t-shirts, FYE has the stuffed animals and the freckled frog has the books! If you're a child of the '80s, you probably well-remember the Mr. Men Little Miss books and we've got them. At only $3.99, they're a cheap trip down memory lane and a fun series to introduce your own children too.

Ch-ch-ch-changes!

In the words of David Bowie, we are about to embark on some major Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes at the freckled frog! If you're reading this Wednesday night, consider yourself the first to know that THE FRECKLED FROG IS MOVING! Don't worry. We're not going far. We are still in Covington - just a "hop, skip and jump" from The Square. We will post pics of the new place and progress photos as we get it ready for you. We have simply outgrown our building and need more room! So when you come to see us in the next month, please pardon our progress!
